Stay Off of Your Phone While Driving

Distracted driving is defined as the practice of driving a motor vehicle while engaged in another activity, and one of the most notorious forms of distracted driving is texting and driving. Taking your eyes off of the road or focusing your attention on something other than driving is a major cause of traffic accidents today. Here's what you can do to avoid using your phone while driving.

  • The first thing you should do is turn off your cell phone. This is the best way to avoid being distracted by it. You can even put it in your glove box so that you can no longer see it.
  • If you are waiting for an important call and can't turn your phone off you should use the hands-free feature. This will still cause a distraction, it will allow you to keep your eyes on the road.
  • If you feel like you have to answer a call or text while you're driving you should pull over on the side of the road before answering, or, if you're riding with a passenger have them answer.
