Remove Oil Stain from Your Driveway with These Steps

If you have an oil stain on your driveway it is important that you try to remove it as soon as possible before it becomes permanent. Because asphalt is porous, it easily soaks up oil and spreads it. There are a number of ways you can remove the oil, some you probably even have in your home already. Here is one of the best ways clean up oil from your driveway.

  • Determine if the oil is wet or dry. If it's new you begin by covering the stain with kitty litter, corn starch, or baking soda. This is to help absorb the moisture.
  • Once the extra moisture is removed and the stain is dry, or if it was already dry, add water and scrub the stain with a stiff brush and a mixture made of baking soda and water.
  • Lastly, rinse the pavement with a hose or pressure washer and let it air dry.
