Why Keeping a Full Gas Tank is Important in the Winter

Some may wonder what all the fuss is about when it comes to whether or not your gas tank is full or close to empty in the winter. Some people have even said that if you have an almost empty tank, your gas mileage will be better. That rumor has been squelched, but there is significance in keeping your gas tank as full as possible during the colder months of winter.

The less gas that is in the tank of your vehicle when it is cold out means that there is more air taking up space. Air harbors moisture which can cause condensation, and that is not a good thing when it comes to the combustion of the gasoline.

Moisture can freeze when it gets into the fuel line which connects to the engine. A frozen spot in your fuel line means that your car won't start, and that it might possibly not operate correctly. Just maintaining a full or nearly full tank can avoid the problem and possible difficulties.
